The Estancia and its history
The accommodation is in our Estancia, Haras Ampascachi, where the old colonial charm has been preserved and every detail has been taken care of. It is one of the most beautiful places in the area, with top quality comforts and services, and a rustic atmosphere.
Today, Haras Ampascachi stretches over 8 hectares that surround what once was the farmhouse of the old "Grand Estancia de la Quebrada" dating from the early nineteenth century. It encompassed more than eighty thousand hectares and was one of the most important estancias in the region for its major livestock and tobacco productions.

Equestrian activities
During your stay at the estancia, we will show you how we start and train our horses professionally. When we start young horses under the saddle, we apply scientific principles based on equine ethology and Learning Theory, to make sure that our horses can meet the demands of any of our equestrian programs.
With the help and recommendations of our guide and Ramon, our human GPS, you will have the possibility to try different horses and select the one that’s right for you.
You will have half-day rides, in which you leave from the Estancia in the morning or in the afternoon, exploring the wonderful surroundings where ravines, rivers and meadows make up the diverse landscapes of this region.
You can also go for full-day rides, leaving from the Estancia in the morning and returning late in the day. During the ride, you will enjoy a typically Argentine lunch in the mountains or in some working estancia, whose main activities are related to agriculture.
Two days of your stay will be devoted to a horseback route that will take us to Taruca Pampa an estancia located in the foothills of the mountain range, very close to the Pampa de Achala and Los Gigantes Mountains. This is an exhilarating experience.
Framed against an incomparable natural setting, Taruca Pampa covers more than four thousand hectares of secluded wilderness and its main activity is cattle breeding.
The Taruca Pampa River runs through the estancia, hence its name, and all along the river’s course we can see some beautiful waterfalls, gorges and cliffs that are more than a hundred meters tall.
In its iodized waters, we can find trout and if you are interested in fishing, you can cast a line to try your luck.
At this estancia, we will help gauchos herd their cattle on horseback. The animals are moved into corrals for branding, vaccination, de-worming, ear tagging or whatever task they need to perform, depending on the time of year. The gauchos will also teach us how to lasso a cow.
We will sleep in cabins near Taruca Pampa’s main house, and the owners themselves will be our hosts.
The members of the Legria Family have devoted their lives to making these rugged lands into an area that gives them everything they need to live. Husband and wife, together with their 6 children will make us feel at home.
At dinner, we will enjoy a delicious “cordero a la estaca” (lamb skewered on stakes around the fire to be roasted slowly). During the day, we can visit the kitchen garden to discover the many different fruit trees, vegetables and herbs they grow here. It’s amazing to see how this family has transformed the rocky soil of this place into a well-stocked garden.
Nono, a village in the Traslasierra Valley
On some of our full-day or half-day tours, we will have to go through the emblematic and traditional village of Nono.
Nono has a very rich history, with deep roots in its indigenous and Hispanic past.
This village was the last indigenous settlement of the Traslasierra region. In the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, many conflicts between native people and colonists occurred here.
Not far from there, some vestiges of the Comechingón civilization and other important archaeological sites were found.

Chapel of “Our Lady of Fatima” in Los Algarrobos
On one of our rides, near Haras Ampascachi, we will visit the old "Chapel of Our Lady of Fatima".
This mountain chapel is located at the foot of the Sierras de Achala at 1,150 metres above sea level.
Built entirely in stone in 1949, it was dedicated to its patron saint – our Lady of Fatima, whose feast is October 13th.
The place where the chapel is erected has a special natural beauty.
From there, you can access the “Altas Cumbres” road through the old path that was once used by José Gabriel Brochero, the Gaucho Priest. This path is known as the “Empedrado” (paved with cobblestones).
Why Haras Ampascachi?
Because Estancia Haras Ampascachi is the equestrian centre where Ampascachi Horse Riding Holidays was born. Our mission is to promote the Peruvian Paso horse and equestrian tourism throughout Argentina, so that riders from all over the world can discover our country, riding this 500-year-old equestrian gem.
Because this is where we started breeding and raising our first Peruvian horses, where we learned to ride, and then to train them. Here, we saw the mares give birth to the first foals and we grew up organizing long horseback rides with our friends.
Haras Ampascachi is the place where we are happy,
where we feed our equestrian spirit, the same as yours,
and we are honoured to share it with you.
