Horse riding holidays in Jordan

Jordan is a land of fascinating beauties and contrasts, and you can explore the splendid deserts and the captivating wilderness of its geography while riding along trails that have remained intact for thousands of years.

For most tourists, a must-see place in Jordan is, without a doubt, the ancient city of Petra. When you think of Jordan, the first thing that comes to mind is most probably the image of the ancient city of Petra carved in the rock over two thousand years ago..

Equestrian Tourism in Jordan

Petra is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and was voted as one of the World’s New 7 Wonders. It’s the legacy from the Nabataeans, an Arab tribe that inhabited southern Jordan over 2000 years ago.

Even though Petra is one of the most incredible attractions of the Middle East, Jordan has so much more to offer to Equestrian Tourism lovers.

Visit to ruins in Jordan

Biblical scenes are not something from the past in Jordan. You will see that many shepherds still wear their tunics and look after their herds across the timeless desert.

Climb the rocky heights of Wadi Rum or float in the Dead Sea (the lowest point on earth).

There’s a lot to see in Jordan: Roman city ruins, Crusader castles, desert fortresses and biblical sites. If you are interested in these tours in particular, you can contact Jordan Inspiration Tours.

Jordan Inspiration Tours

Located in Petra, Jordan Inspiration Tours is a tour operator and supplier of all kinds of Adventure Tourism activities in Jordan.

As regards Equestrian Tourism, they offer three very different rides but if you combine them you can see the whole country. But that would take more than 25 days, so maybe you should go little by little. Now we’ll give you an overall idea of two of them:

Horse riding holidays in Wadi Rum - Jordan

Bedouin Cowboys

The Bedouin Cowboys is a 10-day and 9-night program, starting from and ending in Amman.

In this tour, you will travel to Madaba to view the oldest preserved mosaic map of the Holy Land dating back to the 6th century BC located within the Church of St. George. Next stop is the Dead Sea - the world's largest natural spa and one of the most unique spots you have ever seen. Then you continue to Petra for overnight.

Horseback riding through the desert - Jordan

On the third day your horseback adventure begins. You will leave Petra and its magical surroundings, and the trails will take you to Jabal Haron, better known as Aaron's Mountain. The sweeping views of Wadi Araba, Petra and the Monastery are absolutely breathtaking.

In the following days, you visit the Neolithic village of Beidah (the suburb of the ancient world, where humans used to live 500 BC) and the mountains of El- Hai, where you can explore the backcountry with its old houses, amazing mountain landscape and pristine springs.

You will cross the must-see Wadi Rum and its native peoples. Then, you mount up again for some nomadic desert riding to discover Umm Ishrin Mountain. Imposing, towering rocks and crags rise up from the desert floor in the area of the Umm Ejel Mountain, which is a part of this route.

Wadi Rum Desert- Jordan

You will stop for lunch in the middle of the ride. At the end of the day, when you arrive at the camp with local Bedouins, you can have tea with them and watch the most amazing sunset.

At the camp, enjoy an authentic Bedouin dinner and listen to traditional Bedouin stories around the campfire.

Horse riding in Jordan

On the eighth day, it's time to leave the trails behind and continue the drive to the charming Red Sea resort of Aqaba for a free day.

You will have time to swim, go for a walk or explore the many coffee shops, and two days after that, they will transfer you to Amman Airport for departure, feeling that you have experienced Jordan on horseback together with authentic Bedouins, something you’ll want to tell all your friends as soon as you get home!

Nabataean Trails

This is a 6-day and 5-night program, starting from and ending in Jordan-Amman.

The Program starts in the city of Amman – Petra, where you’ll spend the first night.

On the following day and after breakfast, you have a full day horse riding tour, starting at 7.30am inside Petra where you will explore the main sites in the lower part.

Explore the Siq, Treasury, Street of Facades and Royal Tombs.

Nabatean Route - Petra

On the third day, after breakfast at the hotel, you continue on a self-guided tour of Petra to visit the Monastery or the High Place of Sacrifice.

The Monastery can be reached after a steep climb of 800 steps. This impressive structure is the largest of the rock-cut facades and so large that the door itself is bigger than a house.

The High Place of Sacrifice, thought to be the holiest site of the Nabataean's, is one of the most thrilling walks in Petra. During the climb, view amazing tombs full of incredible carvings and admire the stunning views of the Wadi below.

On the return, take the Wadi Farasa Trail that passes by the Lion Monument, the Garden Temple, the Roman Soldier's Tomb, and ending near the Great Temple.

Visit to Petra - Jordan

In the afternoon, continue horse riding through the stunning mountains of the ‘suburbs” of Petra. With an English-speaking guide, this adventure journeys through the area where there is a magical view over Wadi Araba, Petra, and Little Petra. Visit the Neolithic village of Beidah (the suburb of the ancient world, where humans used to live 500 BC). Meet with the local Bedouin and have tea with them. Dinner and overnight camping in Little Petra at Seven Wonders Bedouin Camp.

Petra horse tour - Jordan

On the next day, you will have breakfast at the camp, then spend a full day riding around Petra mountains in an area called El-Hai and explore the backcountry of Jordan with its old houses, amazing mountain landscape and pristine springs.

Enjoy a picnic lunch in the mountains and Bedouin tea around the fire. At the end of the day, return to Petra for overnight.

There is one more day riding around Petra and then you’ll spend your last night at your hotel.

On your last day, after breakfast and according to your flight details, they will transfer you to Amman Airport for departure.
