Austria, a recommendable destination for your horseback riding vacations
Austria is a landlocked country of Central Europe and is bordered by 8 countries. Mountains and lush forests give the Austrian landscape its character, where we can find 6 natural parks.
Known for the Alps and the Danube River this country is characterized by differing climatic zones and a diversity of landscapes and vegetation.
Due to its geographic position, it is at the centre of European traffic between east and west – the great economic and cultural zones of Europe, with highly developed infrastructure systems.
Besides its natural beauty, Austria stands out for its wide range of cultural experiences. You can discover its architecture, its charming villages or enjoy an intimate musical evening during your equestrian holidays in this country.
Its capital, Vienna, is the undisputed cultural centre of Austria.
Another important city is Salzburg, Mozart's birthplace and where the world-renowned music festival is held.
Salzburg
The oldest riding school in the world is in Vienna. This is the Spanish Riding School in Vienna, whose performances in the Hofburg Palace are also a tourist attraction. It is dedicated to the preservation of classical dressage and the training of Lipizzaner horses.
From this, we can surmise that Austria has a great equestrian tradition.
Thanks to Equestrian Tourism in Austria, you can enjoy the country’s natural beauty, from high alpine peaks to green forests, from grassy meadows to crystalline lakes. Besides, you can combine all that with its rich culture and lovely little villages.
Some interesting facts about Austria
Austria can be divided into 4 major physical regions:
- TLowlands: This region occupies the Danube River Valley, in the east and southeast of the country.
- Bohemian Massif: In the northern part of the Danube. These low mountains consist of fractured metamorphic rocks.
- Alpine Plateau: At 450 meters above sea level, it stretches between the Danube and the Alps, where we can find several glacial lakes and river valleys.
- The Alps: Running in a west–east direction, they can be divided into three principal mountain ranges.
Austrian Alps
As for drainage, nearly all Austrian territory drains into the Danube River system.
The climate is continental in the eastern zone and there is a more alpine type of climate in the alpine regions. Although it is temperate, it changes in each season and the rains are frequent.
As for its fauna, in the Alps we can find marmots, chamois, ibex and jackdaws. In Lake Neusiedl there are birds such as the avocet, the purple heron and the roseate spoonbill.
