Two oceans, dozens of volcanoes, lakes and rivers make the difference. It’s not for nothing that this land is called the “Land of lakes and volcanoes”.

In Nicaragua there are 26 volcanoes in all, several of which are still active, but let’s go little by little.

In the south, 20 km from Manila, the capital city, in the municipality of Nindirí there is the Masaya Volcano, which has an impressive lava lake that has been portrayed in many international audio-visual productions.

For those adventure lovers, there are other curious volcanoes, Maderas and Concepción, guarding the Ometepe Island< and unique for their natural surroundings.

And there is more, the Momotombo, its aftershock and the San Cristóbal, always on the Pacific coast, have a lot to show you.

The hostess and owner of the ranch: Blue, la Jefa

Rancho Chilamate is the realised vision of Canadian expat Blue “known locally as Doña Azul”.

Building from the ground up since 2008, Blue’s passion for Nicaragua, her ranch and her horses, the driving force of this undertaking. Everything is very personalized and every single detail is supervised by her personally.

Her eyes shine through every smile, she is happy and her objective is to make you feel at home and that you discover the area and enjoy her well-kept horses. She has plenty of stories to share – so maybe it’s worth talking about in the saddle or over a glass of wine.

What are their horses like?

The well-being of their horses is of utmost importance to them, but they are mainly the love and passion of Blue, your hostess.

They are Criollo breed. The Criollo (local breed) horse has average height of only 14 to 15 hands and although strong they reserve the right to limit the rider weight to 185 pounds (84kg).

Their riding trails provide opportunity for galloping only at the beach based on your riding ability and comfort level. Remember that the wranglers are the ones in charge, so they may decide if you can go faster or not.

A portion of each ride and service that you hire from them goes to their Local Community Development Fund.

They believe that giving back is essential. It’s their way of showing gratitude to the community for allowing them to live here, be happy for that and develop their business in this incredible natural scenery, which they own.

Let’s talk about the Horseback Rides

They only have day or half-day rides, what is known as "Stat Rides".

They are a perfect combination for riders who want to ride around new landscapes on their horseback riding holidays, but who also want to relax and rest in good accommodations.

In addition to day beach rides, you also have private tours, riding lessons and night rides with stargazing.

Whether you are an advanced rider or this is your first time on a horse – they have the ideal ride for you!

At the end of the ride, you can stay poolside at the ranch and join them for their famous ranch style dinner after your ride, where you’ll share your experiences with other riders from different parts of the world and with Blue, your hostess.

Beach ride

You have two options for this ride, at sunrise or sunset.

The beach, its colours and the sea are not the same when the sun comes up or when it goes down and the moon rises over the sea horizon of Nicaragua.

Their signature beach ride leaves from their stables located in the local community of Escamequita, into open fields and over hilltops for spectacular views, crossing the river several times for excellent wildlife viewing.

At the end of the tour, you get to a secluded beach, the perfect setting to enjoy some fast gallops along the shore.
