Buenos Aires and the Gaucho Pampas
The province of Buenos Aires offers a wide variety of experiences. From gaucho traditions and equestrian activities in the beautiful Argentine Pampas to the cosmopolitan city of Buenos Aires, the tango capital.
Our «Queen of the River Plate»
Buenos Aires came into being on the banks of the Río de la Plata, the river that holds the key to the naming of Argentina. Founded in 1580, it is the most "European" city in South America. During the day, the city is alive with the hustle and bustle of everyday life. In the evenings, cultural and leisure activities are hard to resist.
To everyone’s surprise, the city knows how to combine historic buildings with the most modern architectural style.
We will also visit the neighbourhoods of La Boca or Caminito in search of the origins of tango. Places full of life that have inspired hundreds of artists, musicians and poets.
The gaucho Pampa
Around the modern city of Buenos Aires, we find the Argentine Pampas. It comprises vast expanses of farmland and livestock, and it is very rooted in its gaucho traditions.
During the trip, we will have the opportunity to discover this rich region and share in the daily routine of local ranchers and farmers.
Equestrian sports in Argentina
The province of Buenos Aires has also inherited a long tradition of equestrian sports, among which we can mention Pato and Polo.
Both are played in teams of 4 riders on wonderful horses, usually Criollo horses for Pato and Argentine Polo ponies for Polo. During the game, players use mallets called “tacos” to hit the ball.
Historians have not yet agreed on the origins of Polo, which seems to come from Persia. What we do know is that Pato started in Argentina. Pato is Spanish for "duck", as early games used a live duck wrapped in a leather sack instead of a ball. Fortunately, it has been many years since that practice was abandoned. Today, a leather ball is used.
